How it works

Gravel volume is length × width × depth, plus 10% for compaction. Suppliers usually sell by weight, so the volume is converted using the material’s density.

How to measure

Measure the excavated area. Paths typically take 2–3 in, driveways 4–6 in.

Tips

• Lay landscape fabric underneath to stop weeds and mixing with soil.
• Compact thick bases in layers.
• Density varies with moisture and size; check with the supplier.
