How it works
Liquid membrane needed is area × coats × use per coat (kg/m²). Sealing tape is the total length of wall-floor and wall-wall joints.
You may also need: Tile, Grout.
How to measure
Measure the shower floor and the walls up to at least the shower head height; add up the corner and joint lengths.
Worked example
Here is an example using the calculator’s default values:
Inputs
- Area to waterproof (floor + walls): 130 ft²
- Coats: 2
- Use per coat (kg/m²): 0.7
- Corner and joint length: 40 ft
- Waste allowance: 10%
Result
- Membrane needed (estimate): 41 lb
- Sealing tape: 44 ft
Tips
- Take the consumption and minimum dry film thickness from the data sheet.
- Use tape, corners and pipe collars from the same system.
- Let the membrane dry fully before tiling.
Common mistakes
- Applying only one coat, so the film is too thin.
- Leaving corners and pipe penetrations without tape.
- Not taking the membrane high enough up the walls.
Frequently asked questions
How much liquid membrane do I need?
Area × coats × consumption per coat; often 1–2 kg/m² in total.
How many coats?
Usually two, applied crosswise, to reach the required film thickness.
Do I need tape in corners?
Yes. Embed sealing tape at all wall-floor and wall-wall joints and around drains.
